EAST FLORES – Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Adha which takes place on 10 Dzulhijah 1445 falls on Sunday, June 17, 2024. All Indonesian people celebrate this holiday with joy and slaughter sacrificial animals.
According to predictions from the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, if the process of distributing sacrificial animal meat still uses plastic bags, it will produce 119,033,720 plastic waste, this will certainly have a bad impact on the environment.
Therefore, in order to reduce plastic waste generated from the Eid al-Adha celebration, Rumah Zakat uses alternative packaging in distributing sacrificial meat to the community, including: besek, banana leaves, woven coconut leaves, banana stems, and other organic packaging materials.
Such as the implementation of qurban in Sagu Village, East Flores, West Nusa Tenggara Province which uses banana leaves as containers for sacrificial meat that will be distributed to villagers.
“The process of slaughtering sacrificial animals has been carried out according to sharia, residents are very enthusiastic, we in Sagu Village distribute sacrificial meat from donors using environmentally friendly containers made from nature, hopefully it can help reduce plastic waste,” said Uus Syarifudin, PIC qurban Rumah Zakat.
In the neighboring village, Kelapa Tiga, East Flores, West Nusa Tenggara Province, residents have been very enthusiastic about making woven coconut leaves to be used as containers for meat when distributing sacrificial meat later.
“Residents in Kelapa Tiga Village have been very welcoming, they have been preparing to make containers for meat from coconut leaves for a long time. I am very happy that residents here can taste more sacrificial meat than the previous year,” added Uus.
Until Tuesday, June 18, 2024, through the Desaku Berqurban program, a qurban program providing sacrificial animals for remote villages with minimal qurban. Rumah Zakat has slaughtered 2,953 goats and 231 cows donated by donors at 181 locations, 99 cities/regencies and 24 provinces. Rumah Zakat is also still accepting qurban donations from the community until the 3rd tasyrik day or Thursday, June 20, 2024 at 13.00. Qurban transactions can be done online via www.rumahzakat.org/desakuberqurban or by coming directly to the Rumah Zakat branch offices in 33 provinces.
